Attendance Policy

1. Students are expected to attend all regularly scheduled classes.
2. Student attendance will be tracked daily.
3. When a student has unexcused class periods, the following interventions will occur:

1st occurrence (5 unexcused periods) One day After School Suspension 2nd occurrence (10 unexcused periods) Three days After School Suspension, student attendance contract, parent contact, and advisor notification.
3rd occurrence (15 unexcused periods) Three day suspension, student/parent/advisor conference.
4th occurrence (20 unexcused periods) Five day suspension, Improvement Plan, conference with parents to return to school.
5th occurrence If the student fails to uphold attendance contract, Improvement Plan:

a) Program change
b) Modified schedule
c) BECCA process w/parents
d) Possible long-term suspension

4. Following an absence from school, students must verify the reason for non-attendance with the Attendance Secretary within 24 hours after returning. Students may not clear their absence during instructional time. Students absences may be excused for illness, legal or medical appointments, family emergency, bereavement, or religious holiday.

5. It is a student’s responsibility to clear unverified absences from school.

6. Students leaving the building during scheduled class time must sign out through the office.

7. Advisors, teachers, or the Attendance Secretary may trigger interventions at any time at which a negative attendance pattern is observed.

8. Advisors, or principal may modify a student schedule or program at any time as a strategy to help a student solve an attendance problem.

9. Students who are long term suspended for the remainder of the semester or at the end of the school year may be readmitted on a space available basis only, after a conference with the principal.

10. Students 18 and under who have 5 days of unexcused absences for the year will be petitioned to the juvenile court.
