Apprenticeships

What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is defined as a person who works for another in order to learn a trade. An apprenticeship is best suited for jobs in specific fields such as construction, culinary arts, or even health care. Apprenticeship opportunities combine classroom learning with on-the-job training while being supervised by a trade professional. It is similar to college in that it will take several years to learn enough to be considered a master, but it is different than college because you will earn while you learn!
Why is an apprenticeship the best option for me?
It all depends on what career field you want to be in! If you are interested in being a construction worker, electrician, firefighter, plumber, ironworker, culinary worker, or power-line worker an apprenticeship is the way to go. These, of course, are only a few of the trades that apprenticeships are offered in. Another aspect to consider is the financial reasons. If you enter into an apprenticeship program, you are getting paid to learn a trade that you are interested in and could picture turning into your career! In 2012 the average Washington college graduate owed $21,000 to $24,000 in student loans, by going through an apprenticeship program, you are avoiding that major debt and earning money right away! The financial part sounds nice, but an apprenticeship is a commitment to learning a career trade that you want to
