The Auburn School District’s (ASD) goal is to maximize in-person learning and minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

    Students may be tested when:

    • They are identified as a student in a class that has been identified as having an outbreak (3 or more linked cases in the class) per Public Health Seattle & King County guidelines. This is for students who do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
    • They develop COVID-19 symptoms while at school.

For your students to participate in testing, you must register each of your students and give permission for testing.

The ASD, working with Public Health-Seattle & King County, has partnered with laboratories and other providers to test ASD students for COVID-19 infection.

The test consists of a self-administered lower nasal swab and is a diagnostic test for the COVID-19 virus. The majority of ASD students will be able to self-swab (see photo below). Students unable to self-swab may be assisted by trained ASD staff for either a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

How will I know if my child is tested?

You should receive a phone call or letter offering you testing for your student. If you do not have a consent on file, you will be requested to provide one if you would like the tetst performed. If your student's test is positive for COVID-19, you will be notified. If your child tests positive, you will be asked to pick them up from school. You will be given additional information on quarantining which will follow the DOH Flowchart.

    Who will test my students?

Students may be tested by school staff at school, based on available staffing and test availability.

Registration for Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) by School Staff

Please fill out this form for EACH student granting permission for RAT. This test can be used for students who develop symptoms at school or who are part of Outbreak Screening Testing for a classroom and do not have symptoms.

If a student is tested due to becoming symptomatic at school, a negative result does not mean they can remain in school. We must still follow all the guidance and the student with a negative result would be able to return once symptoms have improved and has no fever for 24 hours without medication or has a differential diagnosis on file.

This permission is granted through the 2021-22 school year unless revoked in writing.

    Optional Outbreak Screening Testing

    • Students may continue to attend class if they:
      • Are a close contact (in their class at school) AND
      • Do not have symptoms
    • If a student tests positive for COVID-19 at any time, they must isolate at home and follow Auburn School District isolation guidance.
    • Students who have symptoms must be evaluated for COVID-19 infection
    • School districts must receive permission from parents/guardians for students to receive school-based testing
