International Exchange
Introduction
All J-1 Visa International Exchange students wishing to attend in the Auburn School District must complete the Auburn School District International Exchange Application packet. Applications for the upcoming school year must be received by June 15th of the prior school year. Principals will review all materials and determine whether their building can support any exchange student placements.
The application includes important district policy and regulations governing participation in international exchange programs. Of paramount importance is the student’s ability to communicate in English. Students must be able to read and write English, fit into district academic programs, and become involved in school and community activities. Proof of English proficiency must be verified. All exchange students are required to take the English Proficiency Screening test upon enrollment. Students that fall below proficient standard will be required to take an English Learner class.
Although international exchange students are allowed to participate in commencement ceremonies, they cannot earn a high school diploma or graduate from the Auburn School District.
