    Dear 1stGrade Parents,

This year as the Learning Specialist my focus will be teaching your child math and music.  Because of the large size of our student body I will be traveling from classroom to classroom this year.  I will be teaching each 1st grade class four days a week for 45 minutes each day. The fifth day during this time will be their Library time with Mrs.Leaf. These five 45 minute lessons provide each classroom teacher time to prepand plan for each day.   During most weeks, I will be teaching supplemental math lessons for three days and on the fourth day I will be teaching music.

I am very excited to be a part of your student’s learning this year.  I have some exciting things planned and cannot wait to begin teaching and enjoying your students.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 253-876-7711 ex. 1290 or cmccarthy@auburn.wednet.edu .

Your child’s teacher and I are in close communication each day.  If your child should need discipline while in my classroom, I will be following the same discipline plan that they have setup in their homeroom.   Please refer to your child’s classroom teacher’s discipline policies if you have any questions.  I will be working directly with you and your child’s teacher if any problems occur that need to be solved.  Please do not hesitate tocontact me if you have questions or concerns in this area.

    Math

    Math

My role in teaching math this year will be in support of your child’s classroom teacher.  The classroom teacher will be teaching from the district curriculum while I will be adding games, manipulatives, and lessons that will support and reinforce what is being taughtby the classroom teacher.

    Music

    Music

In music this year your students will be learning about rhythms, high and low pitches, dynamics, tempos, and note and rest values.  They will also experience a variety of music and movement along with exploring sounds of percussion instruments and rhythm sticks.  One of the most exciting parts of this year will be the chance for your students to participate in two 1stgrade musicals.  The first musical willbe held in December and the second will be held in May.   Please look for more information coming home about our winter musical in the next few months.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me anytime.

    Sincerely,
