Requirements and Guidance to Mitigate COVID-19 Transmission in K-12 Schools, Child Care and Early Learning
Changes from Washington State Department of HealthWe will continue to follow DOH requirements. We continue to work closely with Public Health, who will monitor community levels of COVID and may require additional measures if levels in the community increase. We will communicate with you if the situation changes in the future.
Current ASD Highlights of COVID response:
- Vaccinations/exemptions are not required for staff or volunteers at this time.
- Families will be notified if an outbreak is identified.
- We continue to support the recommendations of the DOH symptoms flowchart as best practice.
- Masks are required in health rooms when symptomatic students are present as they are considered a health care setting.
Requirements and Guidance for COVID-19
-
Employee COVID-19 Vaccination
There is no vaccination requirement/exemption for ASD staff or school volunteers. We continue to encourage the community to work with their healthcare provider on what's best for each family.
-
Exclusion of Individuals with Symptoms of COVID-19
The ASD will continue to follow the DOH Symptom Flowchart in advising students and staff who are experiencing COVID symptoms.
-
Isolation of COVID-19 Cases within a Facility
If symptomatic or COVID positive, those students that can wear a mask and whose symptoms are controlled, can stay in the health room while waiting to be picked up. If it is determined that this is not appropriate, they will be moved to a temporary space for isolation and supervision until they are picked up.
-
Notifying Groups or Individuals of Potential Exposure
The ASD is no longer notifying families of individual COVID cases. If there is an outbreak, we will contact families. An outbreak is at least five (5) cases or 20% of a core group within seven (7) days that are linked together.
-
Ensure Access to Diagnostic Testing for COVID-19
Individuals can obtain free testing kits at www.covid.gov/tests or www.sayyescovidhometest.org.
If you are unable to obtain test kits through these resources, please contact your school health room for additional resources.

Reporting COVID-19 Cases and Outbreaks and Working with Public Health
All positive cases of COVID-19 in schools and provider facilities are required to be reported to LHJs/DOH in accordance with LHJ/DOH guidance and Washington State law (WAC 246-101). All outbreaks of COVID-19 are required to be reported to the LHJ/licensor (WAC 246-101). COVID-19 test results should be reported to DOH in accordance with guidance available at the Reporting COVID-19 Test Results webpage. In addition, schools, providers, and the general public are required to cooperate with public health authorities in the investigation of cases and outbreaks that may be associated with the school or provider (WAC 246-101).
Employers are required to notify L&I about outbreaks of 10 or more staff members at a facility. See the L&I guidance document Questions and Answers: Reporting and Notification Requirements of HELSA and PPE Usage.
