Dear Pioneer Elementary Families,
Hello, and welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!
My name is Paul McKenzie and I am humbled and honored to serve as principal at Pioneer Elementary. Pioneer is a beautiful and diverse school community, filled with amazing students! I count it as a joy to be at Pioneer!
This fall marks the start of my 18th year in education and my 3rd year at Pioneer. Auburn is my hometown district, and I love being able to work with the students and families of my community. Along with being an educator, I am also a husband and father. My wife and I have been married for 17 years and she teaches in Auburn. I am also a proud father of four children, all of whom attend school in Auburn.
The staff and I look forward to working with you and your children this year as we strive to see all students reach their fullest potential. In Auburn, we have a goal to see 100% of our students graduate high school and be prepared for college! As life-long learners, our team is committed to growing in our ability to engage, educate and empower students in their learning. We believe preparation for college begins in elementary school, and we enthusiastically work toward this goal.
Much has changed in everyday life and education since COVID-19 began to impact our community in March 2020. We are here to provide an amazing education for students, and we desire to support your family too. We recognize these are trying times for everyone, but we will get through this together.
Pioneer remains committed to partnering with you to support your child’s development. Currently, our staff is preparing for distance learning in the fall. We have been participating in training focused on helping us deliver high quality instruction, while utilizing a variety of technology tools to enhance student learning. We want to see each student engaged in learning, and we are collaborating to ensure each student receives an excellent education.
We are excited to connect with students and families, and we look forward to the start of the school year!
This is an exciting time to be part of the Pioneer Elementary community, as we anticipate the arrival of our brand new building! Over the summer months, you have probably noticed the amazing progress on our building project. If you have not passed by our original building site (2301 M Street SE), I encourage you to take your family to see the work that has been done. While you are in the neighborhood, you can easily walk by our interim site at 1825 K Street SE to see where your child will attend school this year once we are back in the building.
See timeline below:
- During this year we will be located at “Pioneer Elementary on K Street” which is the old Olympic Middle School. Our address will be 1825 K Street SE, Auburn 98002. This temporary location is just 4 blocks away from our original site (on M Street SE). During this year, Pioneer Elementary will be completely rebuilt at our original site.
- This will be our first year back at our current site (2301 M Street SE) and in a brand new Pioneer Elementary School building!
Family involvement is an important part of education, and you play a special role. I encourage you to read our school newsletters and reach out to a staff member about ways to get involved. You can stay connected online through many ASD resources such as the Remind App & Skyward Family Access.
Building relationships with students and families is important to me, and I look forward to getting to know you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, or the office staff, if you have a question or if we can be of help.
