Principal Summer Shelton
Summer Shelton's lifelong work has been centered around equity in education. She is passionate about eliminating the opportunity gaps that exist for students and families who have been systematically and traditionally underserved based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability status, religion, geography, culture, or socio-economic status. Ms. Shelton's background in education spans nearly twenty-five years and encompasses public, private, charter, and online schools both domestic and abroad.
It is important to Ms. Shelton that all students are affirmed in their culture and identity each day at Lakeland Hills. Summer is proud of her Scottish, Seminole, English, Cherokee, and West African heritage. She was born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi and has been in Washington State since late 2019.
Prior to coming to Lakeland Hills, she served as Director of Teaching and Learning at Muckleshoot Tribal Schools. She has also served as an educator and school leader in Tennessee, Korea, Czechia, Pennsylvania, and Washington. She looks forward to finding and sharing joy with students, staff, and families at Lakeland Hills each day.
