      ARHS Concert Band – 3, 3, 4 = Overall Meets Standard

ARHS Forensics-If you know or have Kennedy Campbell and Hannah Woods in class, please give them a big congratulations for qualifying in Duo Interpretation to the National Speech and Debate tournament that will be held between June 10 and 15, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana!  I'm pleased to announce that they were ranked first by nearly every judge at the National Qualifying tournament on Saturday.  Their piece deals with a teenage girl who is struggling with leukemia.  I received positive feedback from many judges and the girls had many of the judges in tears at the end of their piece.

Please join me in congratulating Justin Kim on being selected into the Music Educators All-National Honor Orchestra. This event will be held June 21st  - 24th, 2012 in Washington D.C. This is a tremendous honor to be selected among the finest musicians in the nation. We are so proud of him and representing ARHS and the Raven community.

Over Winter Break, HACK shattered all previous records! HACK, hosted by StudentRND, challenged students to push themselves to the limit by building video games in 24 hours. StudentRND is a community of students dedicated to science and technology, and determined to spread their knowledge and opportunities to as many students as possible through events like HACK. Over 60 high school and college students formed 7 teams to build cool and innovative games over a 24 hour period. From Riverside, one of the only high school teams from Auburn Riverside High School was composed of Jonah Dube, Braden Mast, Bryan Rivera, Jackson Ryan, Scott Patterson, Brandon Rivera, and Michael Lant, participated in a game design competition. Our team, along with seven other teams composed of high school and college students, had twenty-four hours to build a videogame from scratch. It was a tough challenge, and our team created a great product, but it was not quite enough to place.

Congratulations to Mary Shabel and Toni Dudley for being selected as "2011-2012 Auburn School District Classified Employees  of the year!"

The following students were selected for the 2012 Northwest Honor Band at PLU.  We are truly very lucky to have so many students from ARHS selected to this prestigious event!  Students are selected based on talent, work ethic, academics and dedication to music education.

Senior Rachel Atwood also did well at State, completing the course in 18:33.1, good enough for 7th place among girls. Sophomore Jordan McPhee from Mt. Rainier High took first place for the girls.

Last Friday, the Ravens did something on the varsity football field theyd never done in the schools history: defeat the Auburn Trojans. After trailing at halftime 9-3, they pulled out the win, 30-23, throwing the Trojans out of the playoffs. For the first time, Riverside took home the Fugate trophy, an award most Ravens (students and teachers  alike) had never seen before.

AR Symphonic Choir performed at the CWU Fall Choral classic yesterday and received excellent ratings. More importantly, these student ambassadors of our school and community were awarded the Lynn Dupin Award in recognition of their outstanding Choral Citizenship. In other words, out of 18 choirs from across the state, our students were chosen as the most respectful, courteous, supportive and attentive group. If you see one of these students today, please give them a high five for representing the raven community with excellence and pride!  This is a credit to the hard work of all of our staff.

Taylor Wega, a sophomore at ARHS was a freshman when she did this piece in Drawing 2.  Taylor entered her drawing into the Puyallup Fair this year and won a Blue ribbon.  Blue ribbons are only given to a limited amount of entries and represents the highest level of skills. Also, her award won our Art Department $100.00.  Way to go Taylor!

    Drew Abts Emerging Arts.
Drew took 2nd in the Emerging Artist Category (18 and under), but he got to meet some of the top jewelry designers in the nation (some were even international winners).  It was truly a wonderful experience, and without your trust in his repair skills, this trip WOULD NOT have happened.
