Superintendent Message

Superintendent Alan Spicciati

Welcome to 2017!  As we start off the New Year, I would like to highlight some successes and let you know what’s coming up in the future.

First, we have record enrollment this year, almost 16,000 students in our 22 schools.  Auburn is a great place to live and raise a family and our enrollment shows it!  Our incredible community passed the bond in November and we are now on the path to replacing six of our aging schools and building two new elementary schools.  We will track the progress of this long term project on our website and periodically communicate milestones to the community.  The support and strong commitment of our community will contribute to our success for generations.

In January, we began engaging our community in creating a new strategic plan to guide us through the coming years.  Our goal is to involve all segments of our community in developing a plan to continue Auburn’s tradition of success while building new opportunities for our students.  We have identified a strong, diverse, representative committee to help in this endeavor to create the plan for the best education for Auburn’s students.

By the end of this summer, we will achieve our goal of targeted 1:1 technology for all students thanks to the technology levy passed in 2014.  Students are not just learning how to use technology, they are learning how to learn with technology.  It is transforming personalized learning for all students.

In Auburn, we want ALL students to be successful and are looking at everything we do with a lens of equity. A large contingent of teachers, principals, support staff and administrators are participating in deep equity training to provide more tools to close the achievement gaps for students of every race and family income level.  We will continue building relationships to engage, educate and empower all students.

I am so thankful to be leading this district through these exciting times. I look forward to meeting you in our wonderful community.
