Hi, my name is Marva Richardson, and I am thrilled to introduce myself to you as the Assistant Principal of the newly opening ~ Bowman Creek Elementary School – Home of the Bears! I am excitedly looking forward to a year of learning, fun, and adventure – whether through distance learning, hybrid model, or in-person… (and especially when the in-person starts)! I can’t wait to get to know the students, families, and staff of Bowman Creek.  So let’s start with a little about me:

I was born in Shreveport Louisiana, and raised in southern California. Life hasn’t always been perfect, but I’ve had some great life experiences– student government in middle school, cheerleading in high school and college, graduating Magna cum laude, getting married, having and raising two children, military life, working for the airlines, travel, living in Louisiana, California, Texas, Turkey (yes, the country), Hawaii, Illinois, Washington, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. I also have visited other places too such as Greece, Mexico, Canada, and taken many coast to coast road trips around the US. Do you see why I love the saying: “…Not all those who wander are lost…”?  Some of my other hobbies include long walks or light hiking, long drives, DIY projects, shopping, and watching superhero movies… Rogue, Storm, Wonder Woman, and of course Superman are some of my favs. What I love most about superheroes is that they use their super powers to help others, and are always willing to work with others toward a common cause.  I think we all have a superhero inside of us.

As an educator since 1998, and a school administrator for 10 of those years, I taught mostly at the middle school and high school levels. However, after following my own children through high school and into college, I looped back to rediscover the joy of elementary school life – children’s spirit to learn, their sense of wonder, their willingness to care, and the HUGS… you can’t beat a good hug! I am also very passionate about supporting, retaining, and coaching good teachers and helping them to refine their teaching through a lens of equity. This may be my superpower.  This year I will happily start my 3rd year in the Auburn School District. I recently moved to Auburn, and look forward to meeting everyone, and seeing families and staff while on my regular walks in the neighborhoods. I’ve probably seen some of you already.

Five words to describe me – approachable, joyful, story-teller, problem-solver, systems-thinker. Feel free to take advantage of the first one.
