• VOLUNTEER

"Whatever the motive, volunteering improves the health, happiness, and in some cases, the longevity of volunteers. Children who volunteer are more likely to grow up to be adults who volunteer. Even unwilling children who...volunteer fare better than kids who don't volunteer.

children who volunteer reap big benefits, with a positive effect on grades, self-concept, and attitudes toward education.

Other research links youth volunteering to a higher quality of life as an adult. "Participating in high school tends to boost participating in adulthood, which is related to enhanced well-being." One clear message for parents: Get your children involved in community volunteer programs.”

Thinking of volunteering with the PTA?

    • It's good for you:  Reduces stress as you focus on someone other than yourself
    • Brings people together:  Unites diverse background with a common goal and builds camaraderie and teamwork
    • Promotes personal growth and self esteem: Understanding community needs helps foster empathy and self-efficacy
    • Give back:  People like to support community resources that they use themselves or that benefit people they care about.
    • You make a difference:  Every person counts!
    • Be a role model. If your child is not inclined to volunteer for community service, volunteer yourself! The things you do create a far more lasting impression on your children than anything you say.

Finally, volunteer as a family. Many organizations offer special projects meant to be performed by families. Your child will have the chance to meet other kids their age and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Our PTA Board would like to extend A BIG Thank you to our countless and often quiet PTA volunteers.
