• Willow Crest Elementary- School-wide Title I Program

    Parent & Family Engagement Policy

    2023-2024

Willow Crest Elementary and the school-wide Title 1 Program believe that children have successful educational experiences when parents and teachers work together to assist and support children in their academic endeavors.  The following are ways that Title 1 works in partnership with families to promote the educational success of all Willow Crest Students:

Communication/School Climate:  Communication is a key element in building a strong home and school partnership. All students at Willow Crest Elementary benefit from our school-wide Title I reading.  Title I allows for smaller group time called WIN or What I Need Groups for all grade levels.

In the fall, this letter is sent to parents of all Willow Crest students as part of the compact between school, parents, and students.  We are asking parents, students and teachers to commit to specific ways they will support the academic success of each child throughout the school year.  For some students, Student Learning Plans will be developed, then shared and signed with parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences.  The Willow Crest staff and Title 1 team will continue to communicate with you about your child’s progress using phone calls, e-mails, and progress reports.  In addition, the Title 1 team is available at Open House and at Parent-Teacher Conferences to help facilitate home and school communication.

Learning at Home:   The Title 1 program encourages students to practice their skills at home alone and/or with the help of adults.  Students should read at home, and talk about math and numbers on a regular basis.  Teachers can support with homework that supports reading and math if needed.

Engagement in Schools:   Parent engagement and involvement is fostered and highly encouraged at Willow Crest.  There are many ways to be involved at Willow Crest.  Please contact our Willow Crest office if you would like to join our PTA or if you would like to volunteer on campus.

The Willow Crest Elementary School-wide Title 1 program has an open-door policy.  Parents are welcome to come and observe their children during small group instruction for all grades. Please contact our Title 1 Specialist to schedule a time.   To help grow parent engagement at our school, the Learning Support Center is open for visitation during Open House and parent/teacher conference week.  Feel free to stop by and see first-hand what kinds of things your children are learning at school and how you can support this learning at home.

Parent Input:  The relationship between home and school is of the utmost importance.  We value your input and suggestions to help us improve.  We ask that you review and sign the Parent/Student/School Compact (either during conferences or when sent home with your child)  and returning it to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. We are committed to an effective partnership between school and families.  We ask for your comments and suggestions that help us improve the Compact as well as this Parent & Family Engagement policy to reflect our school-home partnership. You will also be invited to share your feedback about the program in a parent survey at the end of the year.  At any time, you can reach the Title 1 program by calling the office at Willow Crest at (253) 931-4717 and request the Title 1 specialist.

Thank you for partnering with us or the education of your child!
