I. Prevention/Mitigation
Safety and Security
The Director of Safety and Security chairs the District Safety, Security and Preparedness (DSSP) committee. The purpose of the DSSP is to advise the Superintendent, Cabinet, Schools, and support buildings on all matters related to comprehensive school safety, security, emergency preparedness and student and staff well-being.

II. Preparedness
Training
The Safety and Security Department provides information and training on security and safety issues. Training topics include threat assessment, emergency preparedness, run, hide, fight, critical incident management and other safety matters. Additionally, written safety materials for staff, students and parents are also available.

III. Response
Alarm Office
The Safety and Security Department monitors and responds to schools 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The alarm office monitors district alarms and systems, monitors and responds to suspicious activities and coordinates with first responders during off hours.
Campus Safety Officers
Secondary schools are assigned campus safety officer(s) that respond to critical incidents in schools, de-escalate and intervene in volatile situations, and investigate and file security incident reports.

IV. Recovery
After Action Debrief
After critical incidents, the Safety and Security Department provides schools with resources to support the emotional needs of staff, students and parents/guardians.
Operational Review
Each critical incident is an opportunity to review performance and standards. The Safety and Security Department assists schools and administrators with reviewing performance and updating processes and procedures.
