BUILDING FOR LEARNINGTimeline for 2016 Bond Projects
In November 2016, the Auburn community passed a $456,056,000 bond to replace six aging schools and build two new elementary schools.
The bond will replace:
- Chinook Elementary, built in 1963
- Dick Scobee Elementary, built in 1954
- Lea Hill Elementary, built in 1965
- Olympic Middle School, built in 1957
- Pioneer Elementary, built in 1959
- Terminal Park Elementary, built in 1945
The two new elementary schools will provide increased classroom space.
Thanks to the tremendous support of the community, the Auburn School District is going to build eight amazing schools that will serve the community for generations.
The timeline for completing all of the projects is eight to 10 years. Olympic will be the first school and work is already underway. The current project timeline is tentative. The district continues to look for property for the new elementary schools and, once the sites are finalized, the timeline will be updated.

Timeline: Planned Opening, September 2019
Plan: Olympic is being rebuilt on the existing site while the current school building remains in operation. The new school will be on the south side of the property. The existing building will be used as an interim school for some or all of the five elementary schools as they are replaced.
Plan: The district is actively searching for property to build the two new elementary schools. One school will be in the north end of Auburn and one will be in the south. Once property is acquired, a more definitive timeline will be developed for the construction of the new elementary schools.
Plan: Terminal Park will be rebuilt on the existing site. Students will attend Olympic as an interim facility for one year while the existing school is razed and rebuilt. NAC Architecture was selected to design and administer construction of Terminal Park.
