  • Your attendance is important to the success of students in the Auburn School District, however we understand that there are times when it is necessary for people to use leave without pay.  Some of the reasons could be:

    • A person is hired who already had pre-existing vacation plans
    • A family wedding out of town
    • A child graduating out of town
    • A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

The district will adhere to the following procedure for requesting leave without pay:

    1. Make a written request (email is appropriate) to your building administrator, with dates and details regarding your request.
    2. If your administrator supports the leave they will forward the request to Chris Callaham, Executive Director of Human Resources requesting district approval.
    3. Both the employee and the building administrator will be notified by memo that the leave has been either approved or denied.  The memo and notification will be transmitted through email.
    4. You will be expected to use vacation leave or personal leave that you have available, if such leave is allowable under your bargained agreement, prior to the issuance of leave without pay.  All vacation and personal leave shall be entered by the employee into the online absence system.  All leave without pay will be entered by the Auburn School District Payroll Department.
    5. An employee is not authorized to take leave without pay without first obtaining approval from both the building administrator and the district as described above.  If leave is taken without approval, the employee may be subject to discipline and to terms described in their bargained agreement.
