What is Securly?
-
Securly is Auburn's cloud-based web filter for schools. It not only provides an internet filter, but also student online activity monitoring for bullying and self-harm, teacher device monitoring, and a parent portal for filtering at home.
Through the Securly parent portal, parents and guardians are able to monitor the websites their students are visiting. They can also manage controls for what students can and cannot visit outside of school hours on their school accounts.
A web-filter is required by Federal law for any government organization. The web filtering provided on Chromebooks and other ASD computers is consistent with both Federal regulations (CIPA), as well as current community standards and sites considered unsafe to visit (e.g. malware, proxy sites).
All computers/devices on the district’s network are subject to the web filter. As Chromebooks travel home with students, there is programming on them that forces them to utilize the district’s filter when not on the district’s network (e.g., at home, Starbucks).
